Do i need a linksys router connected to my optimum online modem to access the internet?

because i have a wifi-N router and i tryed doing all of the steps but it won't work either way.

so do i need a linksys router to get internet connection-?|||First off,

1) Disconnect everything from your modem.

2) Connect your phone line/ cable to the modem connecting your modem to your provider.

3) Turn your Modem on and wait until it finishes the power-up %26amp; connection cycle and make sure that everything is a 'go' or green led indicators for the Internet etc...

- So far the Modem is Only connected to your Inter provider and nothing else...

4) With your Wifi-N Router Disconnected from everything -turn it off and connect it to your Modem - it should be on the primary RJ45 port going out to the Internet and best if you use the #1 RJ45 port on the Modem.

5) Turn your Wifi-N Router and wait for it to complete its cycle.

6) Insert the Installation CD that came with your Wifi-N Router to Your primary Computer/ Laptop and Install the Software, Connect your Computer/ Laptop to the Wifi-N Router when prompted and finish the Installation.

After that I recommend you create a Secured Wifi Network by giving it a name, use the highest available encryption for your Wifi (possibly WPA2) and remember the Code and Name so that you can enter it to all your wifi electronics later.

7) You should be able to connect to your favorite sites now both wired and through the Wifi-Network.

The Install CD was needed to install Hardware Utilities to make your Wifi Router Work with your operating system as well as give you the software utilities needed to Control %26amp;/ Configure the Router.

I Hope that was helpful. =)

- Thanks to current standards, installing hard-wares and configuring them are soo much easier then what they were before so I only had to type slightly less than 1/2 of what I'd had to type/ instruct in the past.
