How do I secure my 2 lap tops using a linksys router?

My HP tower is hooked up to Comcast internet. My 2 laptops have no problem finding my router signal and work just fine. How do I secure my linksys router so others can not receive my feed. Please make it as simple as possible.|||Every router comes with a user guide, I know since I have bought and installed hundreds.

Open it up, either the booklet or on a CD, and follow the step by step instructions the company has provided for you. Or search yahoo answers as I have also answered this same question at least 50 times.|||All you need to do is create a password to enable access to your wirelss connection.

To do this go into your browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 (I belive that this is the correct address if not then follow the steps below)

(If you were able to access your router page by going to 192.168.1.1 then skip this) - Go to Start - Run - Type in: cmd

In the command box type in ipconfig

you will see something called "Default Gateway" take not of that address and then go into your browser. Type in http:// + the gateway address.

Once the linksys system page is open you will be prompted for a username and password if you have not already set this then by default the username is blank and the password is 'admin'

Go to the tab that says wireless - under 'wirelss security' you will be given the option to set a password for your network.

Select WPA Personal from the dropdown menue and and then type in a password below that you can remember.

Once you have done this you will be disconnected from the internet. Go into your computers network connections and click on your wireless network and type in the password. You should then be good to go.

Also, when you are in the wireless setting on the linksys page you should also see something called SSID - which will enable you to set a name for your network. Pick someting nice that you will notice - just not your name.

Good luck. You wanted simple so I also had to make my response long.

Max|||You need to enable wireless security on your router. I recommend using WPA2 security, disabling broadcast of your SSID, and changing your admin password using a complex password. It sounds difficult, but it's not to bad.

In your user manual, you will see a section for admin/configuration. The user manual will tell you the admin IP address (it should look like 192.168.1.1). Follow these instructions...

1. Use your HP tower

2. Open Internet Explorer

3. Type in the IP address from the manual and click Enter

4. Use the default login information (see the user manual)

5. Look for the option to change your admin password. It's in different places for each router manufacturer. Just look... you will find it.

6. Click under the wireless security section

7. Enable wireless security and select WPA2-PSK

8. Enter a password using a least 8 characters

9. Save your settings

10. Go to each of your laptops and reconnect to your wireless network

11. You will be prompted to enter the wireless security password you entered in Step 8

12. Go back to your HP tower

13. Go to the wireless security section

14. Uncheck 'Broadcast SSID'

15. Save settings

16. Close Internet Explorer
